Get Smart with New Podcast Features [WEB EXTRA]

Sea Grant Web developer Rich Dellinger officially launched the Earthwatch Radio podcast and RSS feed in 2004. Now he’s taken a step further to let listeners refine the results based on their specific interests. Dellinger calls the refined podcast a "SmartCast" and the refined RSS feed a "SmartFeed." Here’s how to set one up:

  1. Click on the Search Programs link on any page to search for Earthwatch Radio scripts by topic keywords, script title, author or year.
  2. At the bottom of the search results page you'll see a link to create either a SmartFeed or SmartCast from the results.
  3. Click on one of these links and you're done. You now have a SmartFeed or SmartCast of only the Earthwatch Radio scripts that meet your search criteria.

For example, you could define a SmartFeed to see the text of scripts that focus only on zebra mussels and it will alert you whenever a new story about them appears on the Earthwatch Radio Web site. For audio, you could set up a SmartCast to download programs that focus only on whales and you’ll receive new programs about them whenever they’re put online.
