| On a sunny November morning in 1975, the Edmund Fitzgerald left port in Superior, Wisconsin to deliver a load of iron ore to Detroit. The crew anticipated a routine trip but disaster struck when a powerful Great Lakes storm sank the ship and her crew beneath the icy waves of Lake Superior. The author uses the ship's bell, which was later recovered at shipwreck site, as a unifying theme throughout the story. Historical detail and rhyming prose accompany dramatic double page illustrations. Both author and illustrator capture the intensity of the fateful voyage and respectfully portray what a tragic event it was. | ||||||
