Swinburne, Stephen R. Once A Wolf: How Wildlife Biologists Fought to Bring Back the Gray Wolf. Boston, Mass.: Houghton Mifflin, 1999.
The history of the coexistence of wolves and humans is a troubled one, which Swinburne explains exceptionally well, aided by vintage photographs and more recent ones by revered wildlife photographer Jim Brandenburg showing a variety of wolf behaviors. The efforts of conservation biologists to reintroduce wolves to Yellowstone are also revealed.
