Dobbs, David. Reef Madness: Charles Darwin, Alexander Agassiz, and the Meaning of Coral. New York: Pantheon, 2005.

Before he published his theory of evolution by natural selection, Darwin made his scientific debut with an article about the formation of coral reefs. A rival theory was perpetuated by Louis Agassiz, a staunch creationist. The rivalry between these two extended to Louis' son Alexander, who made it his life work to prove Darwin wrong--both about coral and about natural selection. A very interesting look at the life of great scientists and their impact on the world and each other.
