A basic bioretention facility is commonly referred to as a rain garden. It is a landscaped garden in a shallow depression that receives storm water from nearby impervious surfaces.
This manual provides design guidelines and a numerical model (RECARGA) that can be used for creating bioretention facilities (rain gardens) for small-scale stormwater management that promotes infiltration of storm water in order to reduce its volume, improve its quality and increase groundwater recharge.
This manual is based on the RECARGA model developed by Alejandro Dussaillant.
The RECARGA software can be downloaded from the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources web site at http://dnr.wi.gov/topic/stormwater
