Get Smart with New Podcast Features [WEB EXTRA]
7/18/05
Sea Grant Web developer Rich Dellinger officially launched the Earthwatch Radio podcast and RSS feed in 2004. Now he’s taken a step further to let listeners refine the results based on their specific interests. Dellinger calls the refined podcast a "SmartCast" and the refined RSS feed a "SmartFeed." Here’s how to set one up:
- Click on the Search Programs link on any page to search for Earthwatch Radio scripts by topic keywords, script title, author or year.
- At the bottom of the search results page you'll see a link to create either a SmartFeed or SmartCast from the results.
- Click on one of these links and you're done. You now have a SmartFeed or SmartCast of only the Earthwatch Radio scripts that meet your search criteria.
For example, you could define a SmartFeed to see the text of scripts that focus only on zebra mussels and it will alert you whenever a new story about them appears on the Earthwatch Radio Web site. For audio, you could set up a SmartCast to download programs that focus only on whales and you’ll receive new programs about them whenever they’re put online.
